Wicked Whisper

Wicked Whisper, a Liam’s Map filly owned by Alex and JoAnn Lieblong and trained by Steve Asmussen, impressed onlookers at the always-competitive Saratoga meet when scoring by 6 ¼ lengths in his career debut on Aug. 25, 2019. The filly led from start to finish in that race, and was elevated to Grade 1 company in her next start, the Frizette Stakes on Oct. 6 at Belmont Park.

Wicked Whisper went to the early lead again in the one-mile Frizette, and jockey Joel Rosario kept the filly to task with minimal urging in the stretch as she turned in another strong performance, winning by 2 ¾ lengths over Frank’s Rockette and earning an automatic bid to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies via the “Win and You’re In” Challenge Series. Wicked Whisper finished a well-beaten fifth in the Juvenile Fillies in her final starts as a 3-year-old.

The chestnut filly returned from an eight-month layoff to make her 3-year-old debut in the Grade 3 Beaumont Stakes Presented by Keeneland Select and ran fourth, beaten by 15 ¾ lengths. She showed significant improvement in her next race when she rallied to finish second by a half-length in the Grade 3 Charles Town Oaks.

Wicked Whicper returned to top form in the Grade 3 Miss Preakness Stakes Oct. 3 at Pimlico, where she reeled in Ain’t No Elmers late to post a one-length victory under Joe Bravo.

The Lieblongs bought Wicked Whisper for $500,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale. She is out of the Bernardini mare Zayanna and is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Point of Honor, stakes winner Velvet Wood, and stakes-placed winner Admiral Jimmy.
