Waldgeist, a Englsh-bred son of leading international sire Galileo, won the 2016 Group 1 Criterium St. Cloud in only his third career start. He finished second in the French Derby and fourth in the Irish Derby at age 3 and reached top form as a 4-year-old in 2018, winning four consecutive group races in Europe including the Group 1 Grand Prix de St. Cloud. That fall, he finished fourth to superstar filly Enable in the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, and one start later checked in fifth behind her in his only trip to the U.S., the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs.

In 2019, Waldgeist closed through the center of Longchamp Racecourse’s homestretch to deny Enable a third consecutive victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, scoring an automatic berth to the Longines Turf at Santa Anita.
