V. E. Day did not race as a 2-year-old but he sure made his mark at age three in 2014.
After finishing fifth and second, respectively, in his first two starts, V. E. Day reeled off four straight victories for trainer Jimmy Jerkens, including back-to-back stakes wins at Saratoga Race Course in the Curlin Stakes and the $1,250,000 Travers Stakes.
The Grade 1 Travers was V. E. Day's first attempt in a graded stakes race and he caught Grade 1 winner Wicked Strong, also trained by Jerkens, in the final strides of the 1 1/4-mile race.
