Uncontested

Uncontested entered the Road to the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard’s higher echelon with an easy, front-running 5 ¼-length score in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Jan. 16.

The Tiz Wonderful colt, owned by Harry Rosenblum and Robert LaPenta, won his first career start at Keeneland in October 2016 in gate-to-wire fashion and then set the early pace in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs in November before fading to fourth.

The Smarty Jones was Uncontested’s third career start, and he picked up 10 qualifying points for the 2017 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands with the win, giving him 11 total and placing him fourth on the leaderboard in mid-January. In his next start, Uncontested set the early pace but tired leaving the far turn in the Feb. 20 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn, fading to sixth.

After fading to eighth in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes, Uncontested finished third in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile Stakes on the 2017 Kentucky Derby undercard. He won an allowance race and was unplaced in a pair of stakes in his final three starts as a 3-year-old.

Winless in his first three races of 2018, Uncontested was transferred to trainer Jennifer Patterson and posted a front-running five-length win in an allowance race in December 2018. He followed with a smashing season debut in 2019, leading from start to finish for a clear victory in the Grade 3 General George Stakes at Laurel Park on Feb. 16.

A $20,000 yearling purchase in 2015, Kentucky-bred Uncontested is out of the Lil E. Tee mare Galileo’s Star.
