After a runner-up finish in his career debut, Uncle Lino won his second race in November at Del Mar. Following a third-place finish in his 3-year-old debut, Uncle Lino tried stakes competition for the first time and finished second to highly regarded 2016 Kentucky Derby hopeful Mor Spirit in the Grade 3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes on Feb. 6 at Santa Anita Park.
After a disappointing fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes, Uncle Lino ran gamely for third in the Grade 1, $1-million Santa Anita Derby to cement his spot in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands.

Uncle Lino is out of the unraced Orientate mare Haysee, a full-sister (same dam, same sire) to Grade 1 winner Lady Joanne and a half-sister (same dam, different sire) to 2011 Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford.
