Unbridled's Note won his only start at two in 2011 before he was tested in graded stakes competition to begin his 3-year-old season to see if he was a candidate for the 2012 Triple Crown races. After a pair of unplaced finishes at Oaklawn Park, Unbridled's Note cut back in distance and won a sprint race at Churchill Downs before placing in both the Grade 3 Amsterdam Stakes and the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes.

It was a switch to turf, however, the led to a breakout performance as Unbridled's Note drove to a convincing win in the Grade 3 Eddie D Stakes on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita Park on September 28.
