By the Moon

By the Moon won her career debut in July 2014 at Saratoga Race Course before finishing second in the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes. She then earned a breakthrough stakes victory in the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes to punch her ticket to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. She finished eighth in the Juvenile Fillies to cap her 2-year-old season.

After finishing fifth in her 3-year-old season debut in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes, By the Moon rebounded with a stakes win at Laurel Park. Later that year, she ran second in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes and third in the Grade 1 Test Stakes. In 2016, she won the Grade 3 Bed o' Roses Stakes and ran second in the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes before finishing fifth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.

In her second start of 2017, By the Moon halted a four-race winless stretch with a victory in the Grade 3 Vagrancy Handicap. She followed with a hard-fought repeat win in the Bed o' Roses.

By the Moon next showed up at Saratoga on July 26 in the Grade 2 Honorable Miss Stakes. She challenged Paulassilverlining and Finley’sluckycharm in the final sixteenth but settled for third. Trainer Michelle Nevin sent By the Moon back to test even tougher waters in the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes on Aug. 26, and this time the mare responded with an impressive head win over Highway Star after setting the pace. By the Moon earned an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint with that victory.
