The Mackem Bullet, a Society Rock filly bred in Ireland, began her racing career in England and broke her maiden in her third career start. She then ran well in three consecutive group stakes in England, finishing third, second, and second – the last coming in a Group 1 stakes at Newmarket.

Owner Katsumi Yoshida brought the filly to the U.S. where she finished sixth in the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. The Mackem Bullet stayed in the U.S. and was transferred to trainer Wesley Ward, where she won an allowance optional claiming race on Turfway Park’s Polytrack on Dec. 31 and then finished fourth in a listed stakes there in early 2019.
The Mackem Bullet then vanned 70 miles south and competed in the Grade 2 Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association at Keeneland on April 7. Running on soft turf, she set just off of the pace through six furlongs before taking over and drawing clear to a 1 ¼-length win under jockey Tyler Gaffalione.
