A multiple Group 1 winner in his native Argentina, The Great Day was transferred to the barn of Arnaud Delacour for his 5-year-old season in the U.S. In his second stateside start, The Great Day finished second by 1 3/4- lengths in the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap. He subsequently shipped to Southern California and ran fifth in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap Aug. 17.
The Great Day earned his first victory in North America when he shipped up to Canada and won the Grade 3 Durham Cup Stakes by a nose over Special Forces on the all-weather surface at Woodbine.
