Winless in her first three starts, Tequilita broke through with a win in her fourth race and then followed with a victory in the Smart Halo Stakes at Laurel Park to close her 2-year-old season. The bay Union Rags filly made her first start in 2017 in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream Park, where she charged from off the pace to prevail by a half-length and extend her winning streak to three.
Winless in her first three starts, Tequilita broke through with a win in her fourth race and then followed with a victory in the Smart Halo Stakes at Laurel Park to close her 2-year-old season. The bay Union Rags filly made her first start in 2017 in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream Park, where she charged from off the pace to prevail by a half-length and extend her winning streak to three.
Tequilita finished second in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks before running seventh in the Longines Kentucky Oaks. She returned from a three-month layoff with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Longines Test Stakes in August 2017 at Saratoga before regaining her winning stride with a 1 1/4-length score in the Grade 3, $300,000 Charles Town Oaks. Over the next 14 months, Tequilita lost eight straight races with several solid efforts in the stretch, including a third-place finisg in the Grade 2 Rufian Stakes in May 2018 and a second-place finish in a stakes race at Belmont Park.
In her final start before heading off to the breeding shed, Tequilita snaped her winless stretch with a victory from off the pace in the Grade 3 Rampart Stakes on Dec. 15, 2018, at Gulfstream Park.
