Tamarando broke his maiden at Del Mar winning by 2 3/4 lengths in his third start before annexing the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity under jockey Julien Leparoux. The colt finished third in the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes and Golden State Juvenile Stakes before again getting back to his winning ways in the Real Quiet Stakes. The colt finished his season with a third in the CashCall Futurity to give himself three respectable Grade 1 performances in 2013.
In his first race as a 3-year-old, Tamarando finished second in the California Cup Derby.
