Tale of Verve broke his maiden in his sixth try at Keeneland in April 2015, winning by two lengths. The colt was then entered in the Kentucky Derby in a surprising move by his connections, where he appeared on the also-eligible list needing two scratches to make the race.
Tale of Verve did not draw into the Kentucky Derby, but he did make the field for the Preakness Stakes and capitalized on the opportunity. He closed powerfully to finish second behind American Pharoah to earn a placing in a Triple Crown race with only one victory to his credit. Talk about a resume booster!

Tale of Verve was bred and is owned by Charles Fipke and trained by Dallas Stewart, the same connections that raced Golden Soul to a second-place finish in the 2013 Kentucky Derby. Fipke owned Tale of Verve's sire, Tale of Ekati. Tale of Verve is from the family of Grade 1 winner and Grade 1 producer Zoftig, as well as multiple Grade 1 winner Zo Impressive and Grade 1 winner Chain Bracelet.
