Sugar Shock was unable to break her maiden in two starts at age two, but reeled off three first-place finishes in her first starts as a 3-year-old including the Honeybee Stakes. In the Honeybee the Candy Ride filly crossed the finish line first but was disqualified to second due to interference with runner-up Euphrosyne. The race was her first start around two turns and her first stakes try.
Sugar Shock then won the Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn in a game effort to secure the second ranking on the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard with 120 points.
