Street Band

After a disappointing career debut, Street Band bounced back in her second start with a dominant 7 ¼-length victory at Ellis Park. Moving up to allowance competition, the chestnut filly finished third in two of her final three starts of 2018 before regaining her winning stride in her 3-year-old bow. She stalked the pace in a one-mile and 70-yard race on Jan. 13 at Fair Grounds and battled gamely in the stretch to win by a nose.

Street Band subsequently made her stakes debut in the Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes at Fair Grounds and moved up to second before fading late in a fourth-place finish. She made amends in her next start in the Grade 2 Twinspires.com Fair Grounds Oaks, surging clear in the stretch to a convincing victory that punched her ticket to the Longines Kentucky Oaks.

In the Kentucky Oaks, Street Band encountered trouble early and often as she was in tight quarters and then shuffled back. She finished seventh but was elevated to sixth following a disqualification. After a nice freshening, Street Band returned in the July 13 Indiana Oaks and overwhelmed the opposition in the Grade 3 race, posting a runaway victory. She subsequently finished third in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes Aug. 17 at Saratoga.

Street Band broke through in a Grade 1 Stakes in September, when she reeled in heavily favored Guarana in deep stretch to win the $1 million Cotillion Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths Sept. 21 at Parx Racing.

Out of the winning Street Cry mare Street Minstrel, Street Band’s grandam (maternal grandmother) is Grade 1 winner Minstrel’s Lassie.
