Storm the Hill needed seven starts to pick up her first career victory, shiping from the East Coast to Southern California where she won her first race at Santa Anita Park in March 2017. The West Coast suited her well as she followed with an allowance victory at Santa Anita in April.
Storm the Hill needed seven starts to pick up her first career victory, shiping from the East Coast to Southern California where she won her first race at Santa Anita Park in March 2017. The West Coast suited her well as she followed with an allowance victory at Santa Anita in April.
After running sixth at Churchill Downs in a Grade 3 race in her stakes debut, Storm the Hill finished third in the Special Goddess Stakes back at Santa Anita in June 2017. After a pair of unplaced finishes in graded stakes at Del Mar, Storm the Hill picked up her first career stakes win in the Unzip Me Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 30. She then finished third in the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes at Santa Anita and the Tropical Park Oaks at Gulfstream Park to close out her 3-year-old season.
Winless in her first four starts as a 4-year-old at Gulfstream Park, Keeneland, and Churchill Downs, Storm the Hill regained her top form with a return to Santa Anita for the Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes on June 24. She closed from off the pace and pulled clear in the stretch to prevail by 1 1/2 lengths in the Wilshire and halt a six-race winless stretch.
Storm the Hill was unplaced in her next two starts but tallied another graded stakes win on Nov. 3, drawing clear from favored Painting Corners to win the Grade 3 Ken Maddy Stakes at Santa Anita by 1 3/4 lengths.
