St. Joe Bay earned a breakthrough graded stakes victory when finishing in a dead heat for first with stablemate Solid Wager in the 2016 Midnight Lute Stakes in his final race of 2016. He opened his 5-year-old season with a victory in the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes.

After finishing fourth in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen, St. Joe Bay went off form for a stretch of three unplaced finishes, which was followed by a pair of thirds and a sixth-place finish all facing allowance competition. He then showed improvement when second in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes in June 2018 but the winless stretch extended 12 races until he finally returned to the winner’s circle with an allowance victory on Dec, 14, 2018 at Los Alamitos.
St. Joe Bay ran fifth in the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes on Jan. 19 in his 7-year-old debut before finding the fountain of youth with a front-running three-length romp in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes on March 30 at Santa Anita Park.
