Something Awesome won three straight races at Woodbine to close out his 2016 season. He placed in five of his next eight starts but did not return to the winner's circle until Nov. 5, 2017, when he won an allowance/optional claiming race at Laurel Park. He followed with another win at Laurel before running third in his stakes debut in the Fire Plug Stakes in January 2018.

Something Awesome then earned a breakthrough win in the Grade 3 General George Stakes when her charged from off the pace to prevail. He followed with a victory in March 2018 in the Harrison E. Johnson Memorial Stakes at Laurel Park that set him up for a start in the $1.2 million Charles Town Classic Stakes.
nN the Charles Town Classic, Something Awesome rallied from off the pace to battle with War Story and Fear the Cowboy in a thrilling stretch battle, edging past War Story late to win the Grade 2 race.
