Skyway broke his maiden impressively at Keeneland in his first try. After a runner-up effort in the Grade 3 Bashford Manor, Skyway shipped west to run at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. There he won the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes in preparation for the marquee 2-year-old race of the meet, the Del Mar Futurity (Grade 1).
Skyway is by Sky Mesa, a precocious 2-year-old himself, and out of the Dr. Blum mare Bedside Manner. Bedside Manner was a stakes winner and her daughter Ava K., Skyway's half-sister, was graded stakes-placed.
