California-bred Skye Diamonds broke her maiden in her second career start in December 2015 at Los Alamitos Race Course and competed in allowance and claiming races over the next year with success. In 2017, the daughter of First Dude stepped up in class and began competing in stakes races for trainer Bill Spawr, and the success continued as she won a listed stakes in March before finishing second in the Grade 3 Adoration Stakes, both at Santa Anita Park.
California-bred Skye Diamonds broke her maiden in her second career start in December 2015 at Los Alamitos Race Course and competed in allowance and claiming races over the next year with success. In 2017, the daughter of First Dude stepped up in class and began competing in stakes races for trainer Bill Spawr, and the success continued as she won a listed stakes in March before finishing second in the Grade 3 Adoration Stakes, both at Santa Anita Park. She then returned to Los Alamitos and picked up his first graded stakes win in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes on July 8 by 2 ½ lengths.
Shipped south to Del Mar for her next start, Skye Diamonds drew clear for a 1 ¼-length score in the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap as the 4-5 favorite. She followed those back-to-back graded stakes wins with a good fourth-place showing in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Del Mar.
Skye Diamonds lost her first five starts of 2018, finishing second once and third three times in graded stakes, but returned to the winner’s circle on Oct. 7 with a 1 ¼-length win in the Grade 3 L.A. Woman Stakes at Santa Anita.
