Sippican Harbor, a 2-year-old filly owned by Lee Pokoik and trained by Gary Contessa, finished fourth in her career debut on turf at Belmont Park early in Saratoga’s summer 2018 meet. She returned in a seven-furlong race that was switched to dirt from turf, and romped by 17 lengths in an impressive effort.
Contessa kept the filly on dirt for the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes on Sept. 1, also at seven furlongs. Sippican Harbor rallied eight-wide under Joel Rosario and won going away at odds of 16-1 to pick up her second consecutive win.
