Shakin It Up won his second start before a third place finish in the Hollywood Prevue (G3) and a win in the San Vincente (G2). After a disappointing effort in the Sunland Derby the colt was given several months off and returned to win the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes in Dec. 2013. He then won the Grade 2 Strub, finished fifth in the Grade 2 San Carlos and finished a game second in the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes.

Pegram has close connections to the nearly-black colt, having bred the colt and his dam, Silver Bullet Moon and raced the colt's sire, champion sprinter Midnight Lute. Silver Bullet Moon is an unraced daughter of Pegram's multiple champion filly Silverbulletday.
