Semper Fortis was entered in the Jan. 28, 2017, Pegasus World Cup Invitational by owner J. Paul Reddam, who bought a slot in the $12 million race in 2016 but retired his Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist later that year.
A 4-year-old son of Distorted Humor, Semper Fortis ran competitively in stakes on the West Coast in 2016, finishing a close second in the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Derby and also posting runner-up efforts in two other stakes. He is trained by Doug O’Neill, who conditioned Nyquist and 2012 Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another for Reddam.
