Salty, a 3-year-old Quality Road filly owned by Gary Barber, Baccari Racing Stable, and Chester Prince, emerged as a 2017 Kentucky Oaks candidate on April 1 at Gulfstream Park, winning the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks as the even-money race favorite. She entered the Gulfstream Park Oaks off of a 2 ½-length win in a seven-furlong maiden at the same track on March 5.

The filly finished fifth in the 2017 Kentucky Oaks before finishing second or third in a trio of Grade 1 races over the summer. Her last race of the year was a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes.
Salty returned as a 4-year-old with an allowance win at Gulfstream Park, her first win in nearly a year. She then reappeared on Kentucky Oaks day at Churchill Downs, this time emerging victorious in the Grade 1 La Troienne Stakes.
Trained by Mark Casse, Salty is out of the stakes-placed Dixie Union mare Theycallmeladyluck.
