Ontario-bred Ransom the Moon took six tries to break his maiden, doing so in August of his 3-year-old season. He won an allowance three starts later and continued competing in allowance races through 2016 and into 2017.
Ontario-bred Ransom the Moon took six tries to break his maiden, doing so in August of his 3-year-old season. He won an allowance three starts later and continued competing in allowance races through 2016 and into 2017.
After another allowance tally in April 2017, Ransom the Moon stepped up into graded stakes company, winning the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes in May by 2 1/4 lengths. He then finished second by a neck to Danzing Candy in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes in July 2017. Later that month, Ransom the Moon secured his first Grade 1 win with an impressive victory in the Bing Crosby Stakes that earned him an automatic spot in the TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint via the "Win and You're In" Challenge Series. He finished fifth in the Sprint in his final start of 2017.
Ransom the Moon started his 2018 season with a runner-up finish in the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes in April at Santa Anita Park. He subsequently shipped to New York for the Grade 1 Met Mile and finished fifth. Ransom the Moon returned to the West Coast for his next start, a return engagement in the Bing Crosby and he scored a repeat victory in the race, defeating defending Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Roy H, to punch his ticket to the 2018 World Championships at Churchill Downs.
