Proctor's Ledge won two of her first three starts before testing deeper waters in stakes competition. She held her own right from the start, finishing third in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association in April 2017.

After a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Edgewood Stakes Presented by Forcht Bank on the Kentucky Derby undercard, Proctor's Ledge ran second in the Grade 3 Regret Stakes in June at Churchill Downs. She then earned a breakthrough stakes victory on opening day of the Saratoga Race Course summer 2017 meet by taking the Grade 3 Lake George Stakes. She proved the Lake George was no fluke when rallying powerfully to win the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes in August 2017.
Proctor’s Ledge closed out her 3-year-old season with an eighth-place finish in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes Presented by Lane’s End, and returned at 4 with a close runner-up effort behind Fourstar Crook in the Grade 2 Hillsborough Stakes after giving up the lead late. Then, she posted a troubled eighth-place finish in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes where she was carried out in early stretch. In her next start, she got a much better trip with John Velazquez aboard and returned to winning form, notching her third career graded stakes score in the Grade 2 Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes at Churchill Downs.
