Prince Earl, a Paddy O’Prado gelding owned by Madeline Auerbach and Harris Farms and trained by Phil D’Amato, broke his maiden in his first career start on May 20, 2018, racing on Santa Anita’s downhill turf. He then won his second start at Del Mar in September before finishing fourth in his first stakes tray in November on the same course.

Prince Earl finished fourth in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby on turf at Del Mar on Dec. 1 and then did not return to racing until Aug. 18, 2019. Under a patient ride from jockey Geovanni Franco, he split horses in midstretch and scored a breakthrough graded stakes win by three-quarters of a length in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile Handicap. He followed with a hard-fought third-place finish by a head in the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile Stakes
