After a close runner-up finish in his career debut, Pony Up won his second start by 1 1/4 lengths on the grass at Gulfstream Park West. He subsequently ran second in the Pulpit Stakes and Kitten's Joy Stakes, both on the grass at Gulfstream. After a disappointing fifth-place finish when returning to dirt for the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes in February, when he was beaten by more than 20 lengths, Pony Up made his next start in the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks on the synthetic surface at Turfway Park and finished second by a neck.
