Pee Wee Reese, a California-bred Tribal Rule gelding, won his fourth career start to break his maiden on dirt in summer 2016 but then blossomed after being switched to turf. Over his next five starts for trainer Phil D’Amato, he won four times and finished second once, and picked up his first stakes win on July 4, 2017, when he set the pace and held on for a 1 ¾-length win in the Grade 3 American Stakes at Santa Anita. Pee Wee Reese finished third in the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar in his final start as a 4-year-old.

In 2018, Pee Wee Weese opened his season with a win in the Joe Hernandez Stakes on Jan. 1 at Santa Anita Park but was unplaced in his only two other starts that year.
Pee Wee Reese returned from a 7 ½-month layoff March 31, 2019 and won the Sensational Star Stakes at Santa Anita Park by 1 ¼ lengths. He did not race again until Sept. 27, when he comfortably held off fast-closing Eddie Haskell to win the Grade 3 Eddie D Stakes.
