New York Central

New York Central won one of two starts as a 2-year-old. He finished second in his 3-year-old bow and then won an allowance-optional claiming race by a neck on a muddy track at Oaklawn Park. New York Central tried his luck on the 2018 Kentucky Derby trail, but after a 10^th-place finish in the Sunland Park Derby he cut back to one turn and finished second in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile Stakes Presented by LG and E and KU on the Kentucky Derby undercard.

New York Central shifted focus to sprinting in 2019 and won his 4-year-old bow by 1 ½ lengths on Feb. 18 at Oaklawn Park. After finishing fifth in the Grade 3 Commonwealth Stakes at Keeneland in April, New York Central earned his first career stakes win when he rallied from off the pace to win the Grade 3 Maryland Sprint Stakes by 1 ¾ lengths on the 2019 Preakness Stakes undercard.

New York Central is one of two graded stakes winners produced by the Forest Wildcat mare Fashion Cat, a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Peace Rules.
