National Flag, a $600,000 yearling purchase by co-owner China Horse Club, finished seventh in his first start during July 2017 but then won his second at Saratoga by 1 ¼ lengths over Engage. He then finished fifth in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at the end of Saratoga’s 2017 meet before taking an extended break over the winter.

The son of Speightstown returned in style at Gulfstream Park, winning a seven-furlong allowance by 2 ¾ lengths. Shipped to Aqueduct for the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes, he rallied from last to win going away over familiar foe Engage, finishing up four lengths ahead.
