Mubtaahij (IRE)

Mubtaahij won the UAE Derby on the 2015 Dubai World Cup day card before shipping to America to compete in the Kentucky Derby, where he finished eighth. He then finished fourth in the Belmont Stakes.

The son of Dubawi was rested until 2016 when he prepped in Dubai and later finished second to California Chrome in the Dubai World Cup. Mubtaahij returned to the United States and finished third in the Suburban Handicap behind Effinex on the Stars and Stripes Day card. He then ran a huge race in the Woodward Stakes and came up second by a head to Shaman Ghost before closing out his 4-year-old season with a fourth-place finish in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.

Mubtaahij returned in 2017 in February in Dubai and finished second in the Curlin Handicap in his prep for the Dubai World Cup. In the $10 million World Cup, Mubtaahij ran fourth behind superstar Arrogate.

Given an extended break after the World Cup, Mubtaahij was training lights out for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert in the fall in Southern California, which prompted Baffert to roll the dice in the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes. He rewarded Baffert with arguably the best race of his career, charging from sixth to take the lead in the stretch and then powering clear to win by 1 1/2 lengths. The victory halted a 10-race winless stretch for Mubtaahij and earned him a guaranteed starting spot in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Mubtaahij finished eighth in the Classic, and then third in the Native Diver Stakes to close out 2017.

Mubtaahij ran third in his first start at age 6 in 2018 in the San Pasqual Stakes on Feb. 3. before a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap. He then shipped back to Dubai for the $10 million Dubai World Cup and finished a game third in the 1 1/4-mile race.

In his first start after returning to the U.S. from Dubai, Mubtaahij finished second to Shotgun Kowboy in the Lone Star Park Handicap.
