Master Plan broke through for a win in his second career start. He then finished second in the Pulpit Stakes in December at Gulfstream Park. Master Plan earned his first stakes victory in the OBS Championship Stakes in January 2017 at Gulfstream Park.
Trainer Todd Pletcher then shipped the Twirling Candy colt to Dubai for the United Arab Emirates Derby Sponsored by the S&M Al Naboodah Group, and he finished third in his group/graded stakes debut.
