Marley's Freedom

Marley’s Freedom, a daughter of Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Blame owned by Cicero Farms, broke her maiden at Del Mar in her third start in September 2017. She won again at Del Mar later that year and in 2018 reached top form with a second in a graded stakes, an allowance win, and then a dominant 7 ¼-length score in the Grade 3 Desert Stormer Stakes at Santa Anita on May 27, her first start for Bob Baffert. She followed with another victory in her second start for Baffert, closing from last to first en route to a 1 1/2-length win in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos on July 7.

Baffert took Marley’s Freedom to Saratoga for her next start in the competitive Ketel One Ballerina Stakes on Aug. 25, a “Win and You’re In” qualifying race for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. With Mike Smith aboard, Marley’s Freedom stalked the pace and drew clear in midstretch for a convincing 3 ¼-length win. After running fourth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, Marley's Freedom returned on Dec. 1 and held off runner-up Come Dancing by a neck to win the Grade 3 Go for Wand Handicap.

She next kicked off her 4-year-old campaign with a rallying win in the Grace 2 Santa Monica stakes back at her home track of Santa Anita Park on Feb. 16, 2019. Marley's Freedom followed with a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Beholder Mile Stakes on March 30 at Santa Anita and then ran second again in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff Stakes on the May 4 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve undercard. She returned to the winner's circle with a 1 3/4-length victory in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos on July 6.

Career earnings for the filly, purchased for only $35,000 as a yearling by Cicero Farms, stood at over $935,000 after her Santa Monica win.
