Marconi, a 3-year-old Tapit colt owned by the Coolmore Partners and Bridlewood Farm, ran competitively in his first stakes attempt in the Feb. 3 Withers Stakes at Aqueduct, finishing third behind graded stakes winners Avery Island and Firenze Fire.
The Todd Pletcher-trained colt was then unplaced in two other Kentucky Derby preps during the spring of 2018, and was absent from racing until February 2019, when he returned and ran fourth in an Aqueduct allowance.

Marconi then unleashed a three-race winning streak, all in stakes races, to reach the best form of his career. He took back-to-back listed stakes at Gulfstream Park and Belmont Park and then led gate-to-wire in winning the Grade 2, 1 ½-mile Woodford Reserve Brooklyn Invitational Stakes on June 8 at Belmont Park.
The colt was a $2 million purchase by Bridlewood Farm and M.V. Magnier, part of his ownership group, as a yearling in 2016.
