After finishing third in her career debut, Lovely Bernadette won three straight races, capping the winning streak with a victory in the Rags to Riches Stakes in October 2016 at Churchill Downs. She then lost four straight while testing the waters on the road to the Kentucky Oaks, but her luck turned around when she was shifted to races on turf.

Lovely Bernadette won an allowance race on the grass at Churchill Downs in June and then finished third twice in stakes races, the second of which was the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park in August. A victory in the Indiana Grand Stakes set Lovely Bernadette up for a return to graded stakes company and she put together the best race of her career to win the Grade 3, $150,000 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes at Keeneland. She returned five weeks later to win the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs to extend her winning streak to three.
After back-to-back unplaced finishes in the spring of 2018, Lovely Bernadette got back on track with a win from off the pace in the Grade 3 Old Forester Mint Julep Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 9.
