Liam the Charmer, a Smart Strike gelding trained by Michael McCarthy, broke his maiden in his third career start in a race on Santa Anita Park’s turf course in May 2016. He won three additional starts through summer 2018, all in allowance/optional claiming races, while also competing in several graded stakes, finishing fourth twice.
On Sept. 30, 2018, he broke through with his first graded stakes victory, taking the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Championship Stakes by a half-length over Ashleyluvssugar.
