After running in the top three in each of her first two starts, On Leave strung together four straight wins with the final two coming in the Riskaverse Stakes at Saratoga Race Course and the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park. She closed her 3-year-old season with a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes at Keeneland.

On Leave ran second in the Grade 3 Gallorette Stakes in her 4-year-old debut and followed with a win in the Perfect Sting Stakes at Belmont Park. After finishin second in a stakes at Saratoga and then fifth at the Spa in a Grade 2 race, she regained her winning form with a victory in the All Along Stakes at Laurel Park. She finished third in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes on Breeders' Cup weekend at Del Mar before closing her 2017 season with a win in the Grade 3 My Charmer Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Three months later On Leave finished a close third in the Grade 3 Honey Fox Stakes to kick off her 5-year-old season for trainer Shug McGaughey. She followed that up with a close runner-up effort behind Proctor’s Ledge in the Grade 2 Longines Distaff Turf Mile.
On Leave is one of six stakes winners produced by the stakes-placed A. P. Indy mare Meaghan's Joy, who also is the dam (mother) of multiple graded stakes winner Ironicus and graded stakes winners Norumbega, Hunting, and Quiet Harbor.
