Laughing Fox emerged on the Triple Crown trail in spring 2019 at Oaklawn Park, racing in the Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby and finishing fourth in the latter. He earned an automatic berth in the May 18 Preakness Stakes by winning the inaugural Oaklawn Invitational Stakes, and made up ground through the stretch in the Preakness to finish fifth.
Laughing Fox, a son of 2012 Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags, is owned by JoAnn and Alex Lieblong and trained by Steve Asmussen.
