A 3 3/4 winner in her second start, Land Over Sea finished third in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante in her second start and second to Songbird in her third start. The filly then headed to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland Race Course, where she finished a disappointing seventh.
Land Over Sea opened her 3-year-old season with back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes and Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes before a breakthrough stakes win in the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks. She subsequently closed gamely to finish second in the $1 million Kentucky Oaks.
