King Zachary, a $550,000 yearling purchase by owner Thomas Conway, surfaced on the 2018 Road to the Kentucky Derby with a sharp win in his third career start for trainer Dale Romans, taking a maiden race on March 18 at Gulfstream Park by 7 ¾ lengths. That earned him a berth in the Wood Memorial Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets, where he finished sixth.
