Killybegs Captain was winless in three starts as a 2-year-old, but showed immediate improvement and maturation at three when running second in his 2017 debut before winning a maiden claiming race by 4 ½ lengths on May 25 at Belmont Park. After a pair of unplaced finishes, he closed out his 3-year-old season with a second-place finish in a sprint at Aqueduct.

After a pair of unplaced finishes, he closed out his 3-year-old season with a second-place finish in a sprint at Aqueduct.
In 2018, Killybegs Captain began to show some serious promise as he won three races, including a pair of allowance victories, and finished in the top three in five of eight starts. He earned his first stakes win in his 5-year-old debut when he rolled to a front-running, 4 ½-length win in the Pelican Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.
Killybegs Captain remained in stakes company and ran second in the Challenger Stakes at Tampa and Chocolate Town Sprint at Penn National in March and June, respectively. He finished third in the Grade 2 John A. Nerud Stakes in July at Belmont in his first try in a graded stakes. In August at Saratoga, Killybegs Captain ran third in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes Presented by Encore Boston Harbor before earning his first career graded stakes win with a three-quarter-length score Sept. 21 at Laurel Park in the Grade 3 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes.
