After winning his second career start for owner-breeder Chuck Fipke, Java's War won the Sunday Silence Stakes at Lousiana Downs in his third race. Java's War recieved his first graded stakes placement in the 2012 Dixiana Breeders' Futurity (G1) and finished third.

He proved that he has turned into a horse to watch in 2013, finishing second behind undefeated Verrazano in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) before overcoming a horrible trip to win the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) and secure himself a spot in the Kentucky Derby gate on the first Saturday in May where he finished 13th.
