Island Commish won his career debut by 9 ½ lengths Aug. 3 at Gulfstream Park in a maiden claiming race that was rained off the turf onto a sloppy main track. He subsequently ran third in the Proud Man Stakes on the grass at Gulfstream before a fifth-place finish back on the main track at Gulfstream in September.
The dark bay or brown Commissioner colt returned to the grass and closed out his –year-old season with back-to-back dominant wins in starter-optional claiming races on the turf at Gulfstream Park West in October and November.

Island Commish is out of the winning Sligo Bay mare Bide a Wee Island, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Something Extra.
