Iotapa won her first two starts before finishing second to champion Beholder in the Santa Anita Oaks. She later won the Railbird Stakes and placed in the Hollywood Oaks and San Clemente to round out her sophomore season.

As a 4-year-old Iotapa continued to perform at the highest level, winning the Santa Maria and finishing second in the Santa Monica and Santa Margarita Stakes before her only out-of-the-money finish, a sixth place in the Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs. The filly then captured the Grade 1 Vanity and the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch, earning a spot in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Distaff field with her victory in the latter race.
Iotapa is by Preakness- and Belmont-winning sire Afleet Alex and out of the El Corredor mare Concinnous, making her a half-sister to stakes winner Saintly Joan.
