Instilled Regard

Instilled Regard, a son of Arch owned by OXO Equine and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, finished second and third in his first two career starts before breaking his maiden on Oct. 29, 2017, at Santa Anita Park in a 4 ½-length runaway.

He was then pointed to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity on Dec. 9 to compete for Kentucky Derby points, and was placed second in a roughly run renewal of the 1 1/16-mile test when Solomini, who finished first, was disqualified to third for interference. Instilled Regard earned four qualifying points for the 2018 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve with the placing.

Instilled Regard made his 3-year-old debut a winning one when he finished powerfully to win the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes at Fair Grounds to bank 10 points for the Kentucky Derby. He subsequently went off form a bit when running fourth in both the Risen Star Stakes and then fourth in the Santa Anita Derby, but on the first Saturday in May he routran his odds by closing to finish fourth on a sloppy racetrack at Churchill Downs.

After an unplaced finish in the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby, Instilled Regard was shifted to the grass and ran third in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby in his final race of 2018.

Making his 4-year-old bow in an allowance race in April 2019 at Keeneland, Instilled Regard finished second by a neck to Admission Office. Back on dirt for the Grade 2 Alysheba Stakes Presented by Sentient Jet on the May 3 Longines Kentucky Oaks undercard, Instilled Regard finished a well-beaten sixth.

The Arch colt returned to turf for a runner-up finish in an allowance race at Aqueduct in November after a six-month break. In his final start as a 4-year-old Instilled Regard halted his eight-race winless stretch with a half-length score on the grass in the Grade 2 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes Dec. 14 at Gulfstream Park.

Insitilled Regard finished third in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes in his 5-year-old bow Jan. 25, 2020, before a disppointing sixth-place finish in the Grade 2 Muniz Memorial Classic Stakes March 21 at Fair Grounds. He regained his top form with a win by a neck in the Grade 2 Fort Marcy Stakes June 6 at Belmont Park.

Stretched out to 1 ¼ miles in the Grade 1 Manhattan Stakes on July 4, Instilled Regard sat patiently off a modest pace under Irad Ortiz and angled out four-wide to rally furiously through Belmont Park’s stretch, getting up just in time to edge stablemate Rockemperor by a neck and score a breakthrough top-level win.

Instilled Regard is out of the winning Forestry mare Enhancing. His grandam (maternal grandmother) is 1994 champion 3-year-old filly Heavenly Prize.
