High Velocity was a $350,000 purchase at the 2018 Keeneland September yearling sale. He made his career debut Oct. 13, 2019 at Santa Anita Park and pressed the pace before drawing away to win by two lengths for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.
The bay Quality Road colt made his stakes debut in the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes Nov. 16 at Del Mar. High Velocity set a pressured pace in the seven-furlong race and pulled away late to win by 1 ¼ lengths as the 11-10 favorite. He subsequently finished third in the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity Dec. 7.
