Hedge Fund, a son of 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, raced once as a 2-year-old in December 2016, finishing fifth, but won his first start as at age three on Feb. 4 in a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park.
He tried graded stakes in his next start for trainer Todd Pletcher, and finished third in the Sunland Derby on March 26, picking up 10 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands. He followed that effort up with a game runner-up finish in the Illinois Derby, but did not qualify for the Kentucky Derby.
