Guarana

Guarana, a 3-year-old Ghostzapper filly homebred by Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky, turned heads in her career debut at Keeneland on April 19, 2019, romping by 14 ¾ lengths in a 6 ½-furlong maiden race on a sloppy track. Based on that effort, Guarana was favored over Longines Kentucky Oaks winner Serengeti Empress in the June 8 Grade 1 Acorn Stakes, traveling a one-turn mile at Belmont Park. She continued a rapid rise to the top of the 3-year-old filly division in the Acorn, rallying past Serengeti Empress in the stretch en route to a six-length, stakes-record win in 1:33.58.

On July 21 at Saratoga, Guarana extended her undefeated streak to three and solidified her position in the front rank of the 3-year-old filly division, winning the prestigious Coaching Club American Oaks by a length over Point of Honor. She closed out her sophomore campaign with a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing.

After winning an allowance-optional claiming race on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs by 5 1/4 lengths in her 4-year-old bow in June 2020, Guarana returned to Grade 1 competition for the rescheduled Madison Stakes July 11 at Keeneland Race Course. She set the pace in the seven-eighths-of-a-mile race before she was passed by fellow Grade 1 winner Mia Mischief in early stretch, but Guarana dug in determinedly and battled back to prevail by a half-length in a terrific show of tenacity.

Guarana is out of the winning Distorted Humor mare Magical World. Her second dam is 2005 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Pleasant Home.
