European-based Golden Horn broke his maiden at first asking before reeling off four straight stakes wins including the Grade 1 Coral Eclipse Stakes and Investec Derby. His first defeat came when he finished second in the Juddmonte International but the colt rebounded to win both the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Europe's biggest race. His connections then shipped him across the Atlantic to compete in the $3 million Breeders' Cup Turf where he finished second.

Golden Horn is a British-bred son of Cape Cross, out of the Dubai Destination mare Fleche d'Or. He was offered at auction as a yearling but the final bid of $321,135 did not meet his reserve.
