Funtastic improved upon a fourth-place finish in his career debut with a 1 3/4-length win in his second start in July 2017 at Saratoga. He won an allowance race in September 2017 at Belmont Park before finishing his 3-year-old campaign with a runner-up finish in the Gio Ponti Stakes at Aqueduct in November.

After finishing in the top three in each of his first three races as a 4-year-old and coming off a front-running 1 1/4-length win in May 2018 at Belmont Park, Funtastic was pointed to his graded stakes debut in the Grade 1, $300,000 United Nations Stakes. The gray or roan colt set an uncontested pace in the 1 3/8-mile race and battled bravely in the closing strides to fend off stablemate Money Multiplier for a 23-1 upset win.
Out of the stakes-winning Quiet American mare Quiet Dance, Funtastic is a half-brother to 2005 Horse of the Year Saint Liam and Grade 2 winner Quiet Giant, who is the dam (mother) of 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner.
